Friction

n. The interruption or slowing of an intended gesture.

Frictions may be productive or unproductive, and can be categorized as:

  • Resistant — friction arising from two (or more) parts in continuous interaction.
  • Redirective — friction produced when parts moving at different velocities come into sudden contact.
  • Obstructive — friction that holds potential energy in stasis, requiring release before kinetic energy can emerge.
